KLANGLANDSCHAFT was brought to life in 2010 as a project of percussionist Kurt Maier. While searching for adequate ways to express his multilayered ambient music compositions he found a congenial musical partner in saxophonist Werner Reiter to accompany him from the beginning. In order to deepen their sound spectrum and explore new musical worlds the ensemble was perfected in 2016 by accordionist Bernd Kohlhofer.
What started as a meditative sound experiment has over the years developed into an expressive, homogeneous body of sound. KLANGLANDSCHAFT’s music effortlessly crosses boundaries between genres: it combines elements from ambient music, tango, jazz and ethnic music into a many-faceted form of modern world music.
The unusual cast opens up space for unconventional tone colours, subtle arrangements and dynamic contrasts. Precise compositions meet free, spontaneous improvisations. Carried by uneven rhythms, syncopation and modal harmonics, one thing is always at the centre of their music: a catchy, touching melody.
