Programme

Cantatas and sonatas by Johann Sebastian Bach, Christoph Graupner and Georg Philipp Telemann

The whole musical world looks to Leipzig 1723:

Would musical history have been different without the petty ban of a German petty prince?

In 1722, the people of Leipzig would have loved to have engaged Graupner as Thomaskantor, but the appointment failed due to the veto of the Landgrave in Darmstadt, who did not want to forego the cultural prestige of his outstanding Kapellmeister. Instead of him, J. S. Bach came to Leipzig... And there was also Telemann...

"Bereite dich Zion" presents solo cantatas from Bach's, Telemann's and Graupner's extensive oeuvre fitting for the Advent season' from the depths with wonderful music of his highly expressive sound style between late baroque and early classical full of inexhaustible ideas.

With the renowned and internationally known Nicholas Spanos, we can look forward to the ideal soloist for the highly virtuosic arias with extended coloraturas.

The Pandolfis Consort, founded in 2004 by Elżbieta Sajka-Bachler with a focus on rarely performed works by famous, sometimes forgotten composers, has long since become a fixture of the early music scene in Vienna. Its artistic work is also documented on numerous CDs.
