About “Dudaryk”

‘Dudaryk’ was founded in 1971 within the Ukrainian Music Association and existed as an amateur vocal ensemble until 1989. Due to the choir’s achievements and success, it became the first choral school for boys in Ukraine, ‘Dudaryk’, in 1989.

Conductor:

The conductor of the choir is Dmytro Katsal. He is a graduate of the Dudaryk choir and the Drohobych State Pedagogical University of Ivan Franko. Since 2005, he has been the director and conductor of the Dudaryk State Academic Male Choir in Lviv. Dmytro continues the traditions of the choir school and chapel development established by his father, Mykola Katsal, founder of Dudaryk. Under the direction of Dmytro Katsal, the Dudaryk choir has participated in numerous concerts and festivals in many cities in Ukraine, Poland and Germany over the past ten years. Dmytro Katsal is a composer, author of sacred music and arrangements of Ukrainian folk songs and Christmas carols for choir, etc.

 

Guest performances:

The Dudaryk choir became known through its participation in various singing competitions and festivals around the world. The choir has performed in Austria, Georgia, Estonia, Canada, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Russia (Moscow Opera), Belarus, Slovakia, New York (Carnegie Hall), Hungary, France (Notre Dame), Czechia and Switzerland.

 

Awards:

The Dudaryk choir has also been awarded Ukraine's highest prize for the arts: the National T.H. Shevchenko Prize.
