Mass in C major, „Missa pro coronatione Francisci II. Budae peragenda“
Johann Georg Albrechtsberger, known by some as a teacher of Beethoven, was born near Vienna. He received his musical education as a choir boy in Melk, where he played the organ. Albrechtsberger, who was also a renowned cellist and author of pedagogical works, performed as organist of the Vienna Court Music Ensemble for over 20 years. The close friend of Joseph Haydn produced a remarkable catalogue of compositions, including a large number of masses. The mass in C-major (“Coronation mass”) for four-part choir, 2 violins, bass, flute, 2 oboes, 2 trumpets, kettledrum and organ, which he composed in 1792 for the coronation ceremony of Franz II., became the most well-known.
